Project Details

The works proposed by council were as follows:

• Restoration and refurbishment of the dilapidated existing building
• Structural upgrades and strengthening of the heritage listed building to current code requirements

Challenge Faced / Engineering Problem Solved:

• Strengthening existing foundations and installation of new footings to account for high wind loads and earthquake stability
• Extensive repairs to corroded reinforcement in concrete walls

Safe Strong Stable Solution

Construction systems used included:

• Temporary propping of the existing façade for retention whilst repairs and upgrades were carried out
• New building foundations for shear walls and floor slabs
• Structural steel awning framing to act as bracing for the tall facade
