Private Residence - Valentine
MPC Consulting Engineers provide civil and structural engineering services for both large and small residential projects. This private residence on the waters edge of Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle, comprised construction of reinforced concrete ground and first floor suspended concrete slabs. The entire foundation system and 25m long concrete pool was found on steel screw piles to support the stiffened waffle pod foundation system. Wall and roof structures comprised a combination of reinforced concrete blockwork with structural steel framing for all roof elements. The roof structure facing the lake was designed by Schreiber Hamilton Architecture as a 6m long cantilevered element. This roof overhang required 3D modelling to design the structure to satisfy the high wind loads that occur over lake Macquarie in an extreme event. MPC also designed all civil stormwater engineering works which included underground rainwater harvesting tanks and overflow paths under portions of the residence to enable upstream catchment flows to pass to the lake in an extreme storm event.
